Guiding Excellence in Quranic Memorisation
Nibras Academy is a Quranic foundation dedicated exclusively to well-mannered, committed students who have embarked on their Hifdh journey. Our mission is to provide tailored mentorship that inspires confidence, delivers structured guidance, and supports rapid, high-quality memorisation.
At Nibras, we foster a focused and uplifting environment where elite students can thrive. Through a strong emphasis on both new memorisation and consistent revision, we ensure that progress is solid, and past surahs remain firmly retained.
Located in Melbourne’s northern suburbs, Nibras Academy currently offers its services to boys of secondary school age (13–18 years old).

Term Arabic Meaning / Explanation
Ḥifdh حِفْظ Memorisation; refers to the process of memorising the Qur’an.
Ḥāfidh(male) / Ḥāfidhah (female) حافِظ / حافِظَة A person who has memorised the entire Qur’an.
Mutashābihāt مُتَشابِهات Similar or identical verses in different parts of the Qur’an; often challenging during memorisation.
Murājaʿah مُراجَعَة Revision or review of previously memorised portions.
Juzʾ (pl. Ajzāʾ) جُزْء (أَجْزاء) One of 30 equal parts of the Qur’an.
Ḥizb (pl. Aḥzāb) حِزْب (أَحْزاب) One-half of a juzʾ; the Qur’an contains 60 ḥizbs.
Tilāwah تِلاوَة Recitation of the Qur’an with proper pronunciation and Tajwīd.
Tajwīd تَجويد The set of rules governing proper pronunciation and articulation of Qur’anic letters.
Tartīl تَرْتِيل Slow, measured recitation with reflection and precision.
Tashbīh تَشْبيه Similarity—sometimes used in context of mutashābihāt verses.
Tasmeeʿ تَسْميع The act of reciting memorised verses aloud to a teacher or peer.
Isnād إِسْناد A chain of transmission; often relevant when certifying a ḥāfiẓ or in Qur’anic ijāzah systems.
Ijāzah إِجازة Certification or permission given by a qualified teacher to recite or teach the Qur’an.
Ghayb غَيْب Recitation from memory (without looking).
Naẓarī نَظَرِي Reading the Qur’an with the eye (not from memory); opposite of ghayb.
Suhuf صُحُف Literal: scrolls or pages; used metaphorically to refer to memorised pages.

The word “Ustadh” (Arabic: أُسْتَاذ) means “teacher” or “tutor” in Arabic — a title of respect given to those who impart knowledge with sincerity and skill. At Nibras Academy, we are honoured to have Ustadh Abdurrahman Tholia as our lead instructor for the Hifdh (Qur'an memorisation) course.
About Ustadh Abdurrahman
Ustadh Abdurrahman is a highly experienced Qur’an and Arabic tutor as well as a qualified primary school teacher, with over 15 years of teaching experience across Melbourne, Australia. His experience spans:
Teaching at an Islamic college in Melbourne
Delivering private Qur’an tutoring at all levels
Mentoring students of all ages in memorisation and recitation
Leading Taraweeh prayers as an Imam at multiple Melbourne mosques
His Qualifications
Ustadh Abdurrahman has completed the full memorisation of the Qur’an, with a strong foundation in Tajweed (rules of Qur'anic recitation), under the guidance of renowned Qur’an reciters.
He holds two Ijazahs (إِجازَة) with Sanad in the Recitation of Hafs, which authorise him to teach and transmit the Qur'an in accordance with the traditional chain of narration going back to the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
What is an Ijazah?
An Ijazah is a formal certification granted by a qualified scholar to a student, confirming their mastery in a particular Islamic discipline — such as Qur'an memorisation or Tajweed — and granting them permission to teach others.
